Evans, who was born in 1970, was able to make her mark in the second half of the 90s the time when many of the country music's aspiring artists turned towards contemporary popular songs. That is evident on the debut album she released in 1997 called True Lies. True Lies was not a huge success, even though it was loved by critics as well as winning an 1998 Academy of Country Music nomination for the best female vocalist. Evans was persuaded to change her repertoire of songs for No Place That Far in 1999 by producers. That gave her the public acknowledgement she'd always desired for so long.
